How Our Y is Governed

Key elements of the YMCA governance structure:

Board of Directors

The board of directors is responsible for overseeing the YMCA’s operations and setting its strategic direction. Board members are typically volunteers who are elected or appointed to serve for a set term. The board typically includes individuals from the community who have expertise in areas such as finance, marketing, and nonprofit management.

Committees

The board creates committees to help carry out specific tasks or functions, such as fundraising, finance, program development, or community outreach. Committee members may be drawn from the board or from the community.

CEO/Executive Director

The CEO or executive director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the YMCA, under the direction of the board. The CEO may be hired by the board or appointed by a higher-level YMCA organization.

Leadership Staff

Under the direction of the CEO, YMCA professional staff lead the various departments that supports membership and programs that serve our community.

Board of Directors

The YMCA Board of Directors is composed of volunteers who are nominated and elected on by the current board members. The board is responsible for setting the overall mission and vision of the organization, overseeing the strategic direction and operations, establishing policies, approving budgets, and monitoring financial performance.
